Director's Statement:

I've long been a fan of horror franchises that revolve around a central antagonist. The franchises that create an iconic villain that the heroes battle in every installment of the series are so fun to watch and bring with them a level of rewatchability and comfort. My biggest influences for Takers came from supernatural horror franchises such as Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th or the Halloween franchise. I love the fantasy and world-building that comes with exploring these worlds and the lore of these evil creations and superhuman abilities that they possess. I also was very interested in adding in an action element to the horror genre and loved the idea of introducing a villain that could move space and time and manipulate the people around him with a kinetic and dynamic movement that brought with it a thrilling intensity, much in the way a fast paced action film or chase sequence would bring to a viewer. With Takers, I very much wanted to increase the production value and level of complexity by adding in stunts and an extensive use of art-directed visual effects for the Doctor's appearance, that make up the vast majority of shots within the film. I always wanted Takers to be an intense, horrifying and thrilling viewing experience that established the tone of the film and introduced a new central antagonist that could eventually become the next big horror franchise. Takers is a proof of concept to introduce the character of The Doctor, and my hope is to further explore this surreal and nightmare-ish landscape in a feature film eventually.
