Director’s Note:
A good friend and R&B and rap artist Jassy Thomas contacted me about coming on to produce and direct a music video for his single "Retrograde" that is an infectious tune with equal parts great rap and singing from Jassy. I fell in love with the track immediately when I first heard it. Jassy came up with a treatment set in a desolate desert town of Bombay Beach, a deserted town built around a beach that eventually got polluted over the years and became a deserted ghost town. The abandoned bomb shelter we shot in still had eerie remnants of a shelter complete with old tables, graffiti and what looked like an upside down missile on a platform. Paired with Jassy's interest in astrology and tarot card reading, we weaved these themes and visuals into the video and also experimented with themes of alien iconography and outer space all in one stylish, anamorphic package.
